CPC Meeting began at 7:05pm

Approval of Previous meeting Minutes:
Approval granted for February, 2014 minutes – Vote was unanimous (8-0)

Chairman's report:  

Camp Kiwanee-North End Cabin Repair and Restoration Pre-Application – Jim Flanagan
Laura still will research and e-mail Jim Flanagan

Hanson Food Pantry – Pre-Application - Paul Nicol
Paul Nicol submitted a pre-application for assistance with installing fire alarms in the Hanson Food Pantry.  
Extensive work and money has gone into the improvements thus far, but fire alarms need updating and installation.  Paul Nicol committed to check with Fire Chief Jerry Thompson to determine what was required to bring the Food Pantry up to fire code.~ In addition, Paul was asked to bring an application with three bids to the next meeting.  Patty will follow up with the Circuit Rider suggested by the Community Preservation Coalition~to see if the Food Pantry site would be considered historically significant.~ Motion was made by John Kemmett to accept the pre-application pending historical commission sign off and Allan Clemons second the motion.  (8-0 approved).  Timeline of warrant was questions and Laura will speak to Merry to see if a placeholder for this warrant can be submitted.

Bonney House update:   
Allan and Laura will contact Merry regarding finances for the beam repair.

Poor Meadow Brook/Stone Property:
CPC Committee all signed off on the payment of $46,620 for the Poor Meadow Brook purchase.


Thomas Mill Sign:

Bookmark from February meeting:

  • John Kemmett stated that Thomas Mill needs electrical work in the near future would the funds be able to come from CPC?  Laura will call Coalition to check into this.  Signage is also needed for the conservation properties around town.
  • Motion made by John Kemmett and seconded by Allan Clemons that we will consider, after evidence from Phil Clemons, pay for the Conservation 21E. Passed unanimously.  Phil should see if he can push privately or Taunton Trust.
  • Bill Strait suggested someone should man a table with CPC information at the Town Get-Together at Camp Kiwanee in June. Everyone agreed would be good idea.
Other:
  • Email with answer’s to Laura’s questions from Katherine Roth, MA Community Preservation Organization was reviewed in tonight’s meeting:
  • Lighting for existing ball fields, permitted as it relates to rehabilitation of existing recreational facilities?  YES
  • Restoration of cabins at town owned Camp Kiwanee permitted?  YES, if cabin is historical significant and noted as such.
  • Restoration of the Thomas Mill?  Since rebuilt in 1976, not sure, CPC to do more research.
  • Signs for trailheads that have not been acquired by CPC?  NO
  • Fire alarms at a historic building being used as a Food Pantry?  YES. This project is allowable as preservation of a historic resource under CPA - where preservation is defined as - "to protect from injury, harm, or destruction" -~as long as the building has been listed on the state register of historic places or has been determined by the local Historical Commission to be significant~in Hanson's history, culture, architecture, or archeology.~~
